Definite Article Parts of Body
Rule 8.9: Use the definite article with parts of the body that have come into contact with an outside object.
The lifeguard grabbed the drowning child by the hand and pulled him out of the water.
The suitcase hit Jill on the shoulder.
The traitor stabbed his friend in the back.
Extra! Use possessive adjectives (my, your, his, her, its, our, their) in most other cases that relate to parts of the body.
Blaine needs to wash his face.
My stomach is growling. I need to eat.
